ACTS OF LAWLESSNESS BY UPND CADRES ACROSS THE COUNTRY CONTINUE.
UPND cadres have continued to engage in acts of lawlessness since the declaration of the party leader Hakainde Hichilema as president-elect of the Republic of Zambia.
The cadres have been seen in videos and pictures that have gone viral, looting goods, harassing, beating and damaging properties of UPND of suspected PF symphathisers or perceived political opponents.
In a recent video, a police officer who was attempting to stop a group of suspected UPND cadres’ unruly behauvior is seen being harassed and eventually locked up in a shop before driving off the scene.
In another video, a man suspected to be a PF member is mercilessly beaten after been spotted in UPND party regalia.
In response to the attacks UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa told the media this morning that police must quickly arrest the situation.
“For those places where this harassment or possible violence could have taken place before the president elect spoke or after he spoke, please this must stop now. We meant it when we said it shall be rule of law, not rule of men,”Mweetwa said
“The markets,bus stations and other trading places should be left to the council. We are asking the councils across the country to proactively prepare to swiftly move in to take over these public utilities.”
But Patriots for Economic Progress Sean Tembo said it was disappointed with UPND cadres.
He said the continued lawless acts by the UPND cadres was a reflection of total failure of leadership on the UPND.
He said the excuse that the UPND could only request the police to arrest the situation and not make any sweeping orders did not hold water.
