CHONGWE DC QUIZZED OVER MISSING DMMU RELIEF FOOD

By JOHN KOMBE

CHONGWE District Commissioner Robster Mwanza, yesterday allegedly failed to account for relief food received from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) in the past two months.

This came to light when the media visited his office to enquire on the status of relief food received so far. When asked about why his office had not yet distributed about 3, 000 x 12.5 kg bags of mealie meal, Mr Mwanza said that his office had decided to do the exercise after the elections.

However, a source alleged that the office received an undisclosed amount of mealie meal and rice which was erroneously distributed through the then ruling Patriotic Front (PF) structures.

Mr Mwanza, who was hesitant to take the media to the warehouse, complained that he was not informed of the presence of the media. Mr Mwanza said that he could not give adequate answers because the Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary, Mr Elias Kamanga, had advised him to refer all queries to his office.

A visit to the store house at the official residence of the District Commissioner which he had not occupied, found that the bags of mealie meal in stock could not amount to 3, 000 as claimed.
