NO FAMILIARITY IN APPOINTMENTS – UPND

By ADRIAN MWANZA

APPOINTMENTS into Government will be based on capabilities and not familiarity to the incoming Head of State or the role someone played during elections, UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has said.

Mr Mweetwa said contrary to insinuations that UPND would face problems when appointing its cabinet because alliance partner would demand for senior positions, individuals would be appointed based on their credentials and what they would offer to the people.

He said the alliance was a team without conditions and that there was nothing like who contributed what during elections. “The sole responsibility of appointing a cabinet will rest on President-elect Hakainde Hichilema,” he said in an interview.

Mr Mweetwa said no one was jostling for positions in the party and that he was sure that the cabinet to be appointed would be divergent. He said the President-elect would appoint people from across all provinces and would also include women and youths who played a key role in the country.

“This is going to be an all-inclusive cabinet with people from across the provinces to do away with the tribal tag which the country has grappled with for a long time,” Mr Mweetwa said. He said jostling for positions was out of question and that the UPND would hit the ground running, working to improve the livelihoods of Zambians who had been in problems for a long time.

“It is not our victory as UPND but for Zambia as a country which in the past has been battling economic problems which we hope to rectify,” he said.
