ROAD DEVELOPMENT AGENCY

MEDIA STATEMENT
SINKHOLE AT SIX MILES IN LUSAKA

The Road Development Agency (RDA) regrets to advise the travelling public that a sinkhole developed approximately six miles North of Lusaka along the Great North Road around 15:00 hours.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred as a result of an old Armco culvert that gave in.

Immediately, the RDA in collaboration with the Zambia Police Service and the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) moved in on site to control traffic and commenced emergency works to excavate and replace the collapsed culvert.

It is anticipated that the works will be completed within five days.

During this period, traffic has been diverted to both sides of the road to facilitate the repair works.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes such as the Linda-Kabangwe (bypass) and Mungwi roads in the interim.

The Agency is working around the clock to ensure that connectivity on this section of the road is restored. Further, the RDA sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience caused by this unfortunate development.
