CONDUCT PERFORMANCE AUDIT FIRST, HH ADVISED

By NATION REPORTER

IT will be wrong for President Hakainde Hichilema to start firing and replacing civil servants and parastatal employees after being sworn in without a performance audit, Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) president Sean Tembo has said.

Mr Tembo said Mr Hichilema needed to conduct a performance audit so as to objectively determine who is underperforming and needs to be replaced.

He said a performance audit would point out who had been performing well and needed to be retained under his administration before dismissing and replacing anyone.

Mr Tembo said the absence of any performance audit would act contrary to Mr Hichilema’s commitment that he would only appoint people on merit.

“We welcome the commitment that President-elect Hakainde Hichilema has given to Zambians that all job appointments by his Government will be made on merit.  Our considered view is that in the absence of any performance audit, it will be wrong to start firing and replacing civil servants and parastatal employees,” he said in a statement.

And Mr Tembo said he would support Mr Hichilema throughout his presidency because he believed that when he succeeds, Zambians would have succeeded too.

He however said his support of the President would be on condition that he does the right things which would be for the benefit of Zambians.

“If we detect any deviation from transparency, accountability, equity, fairness, competency and justice, we will not hesitate to voice our objections accordingly,” Mr Tembo said.
