PF NEVER GOT VEHICLES FROM ZESCO, SAYS LUBINDA
By SIMON MUNTEMBA
THE Patriotic Front (PF) has challenged UPND to provide evidence of its claims that Zesco donated vehicles to the party for use during campaigns.
PF chairperson for information and publicity Given Lubinda said UPND spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa was now in Government and should stop making unsubstantiated allegations like he did when he was in opposition.
Mr Lubinda, who refuted allegations that Zesco donated vehicles to the PF for campaigns during the just ended elections challenged Mr Mweetwa to prove his claims.
He was reacting to Mr Mweetwa’s statement that UPND was aware of manoeuvress by some senior Zesco employees to register the vehicles under individual PF officials.
Mr Mweetwa said it had come to their attention that a number of vehicles were bought using utility resources but were used in the PF campaigns without due regard to the law.
“We are aware and it has come to our attention that Zesco bought a fleet of Land Cruiser and Hilux vehicles using its own resources and branded them PF and ECL 2021 and beyond. And we are aware of attempts to conceal the said state property into individual names,” Mr Mweetwa said.
But Mr Lubinda said there was no single vehicle that was donated to PF for campaigns in the just ended elections and that the allegations were just mere rhetoric by Mr Mweetwa.
“Mr Cornelius Mweetwa is in Government now, it is his duty to go beyond rhetoric because he is no longer in opposition. He was tolerated when in opposition when he made rhetoric, but now he will no longer be tolerated. He must take action and not just make allegations. He has the power to take action now.
“As far I am concerned there was no single vehicle that was donated to us for campaigns,” Mr Lubinda said.
