HH’s pledge on women in business inspiring, says activist
By ANDREW MUKOMA
A women’s rights and governance activist has applauded President Hakainde Hichilema for considering reducing the high cost of doing business for women who are struggling with the unbearable cost of food.
Sibongile Mwanakampwe noted that women were the most affected with economic hardships amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ms Mwanakampwe said the pronouncement made by the President during his inauguration on Tuesday gave hope to women struggling with the cost of living.
She was speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation in Livingstone yesterday.
Ms Mwanakampwe said that the cost of living in Zambia was not favourable to vulnerable women especially those doing small businesses.
She said that most women were in need of a conducive environment for their businesses to thrive as they were working so hard to fend for their families.
She observed that despite the assurance from the Head of State to look into the plight of women, more needs to be done to include gender equality in the constitution to enable the female folk to compete with men favourably.
