MMD to petition polls results should PF win

NEW Hope MMD has threatened to petition today’s elections result in an event that the ruling Patriotic Front wins the elections.

New Hope MMD president, Nevers Mumba, in an interview said that his party will not hesitate to petition the result as long as the PF won the election because the ruling party had caused chaos.

Dr Mumba said that his party had written to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) over the continued infringement by the PF but that no response was gotten from the electoral body.

He said that his party would wait for the outcome of the result but would only take action if the PF won because the ruling party had done everything possible to destroy his party.

‘’I want to tell the nation that we are going to take legal action against the PF if they win the elections because they have really been unfair to us so much so that we even wrote to the ECZ to complain,’’ he said.

Dr Mumba said that the ECZ had no authority and backbone to stop the chaos that was been fanned by the ruling party hence the need to pursue other avenues.

He said that it was for that reason that his party had decided to take the next step which was to engage the courts of law if the PF was voted back.

Meanwhile, PF member Chishimba Kambwili urged Zambians not to engage in electoral violence as they cast their votes.

Mr Kambwili said that the country needed to continue with the peace it had enjoyed and not let politics divide the country.

He said that he was confident that the country would have a peaceful and violence free elections because Zambians were peaceful people.

‘’May the best person carry the day but I want to urge Zambians to vote for President Lungu because he is a good leader who deserves another term,’’ he said.

He said that he was sure that the police and Zambia Army personnel would ensure that cadres from all the parties were tamed.
