ZAMBIA RECORDS COVID -19 DEATHS
ZAMBIA has for the first time recorded no mortalities from the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours since May 28 this year.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Kennedy Malama, said the country had continued to record encouraging reduction in the mortality rate as no one died of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.
Dr Malama said the cumulative number of Covid-19 related deaths stood at 3, 587 classified as 2, 691 Covid-19 deaths and 896 Covid-19 associated deaths.
“We continue to record encouraging reduction in our mortality rate, and today for the first time since 28th May this year, we did not record any new Covid-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours,” he said.
He said globally and in the region the Covid-19 situation had remained stable with countries at various phases of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr Malama said there had been an improvement in the country over the past two weeks and that with a positivity of 4.5 percent out of the 8, 596 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
“Our multi-sectoral teams have continued conducting inspections and enforcement activities countrywide and in the last 24 hours, 1 840 premises were visited of which 1, 636 (89 percent) were compliant, 197 (11 percent) served with notices of improvement while seven (0.4 percent) were closed,” he said.
He said the ministry yesterday received a consignment of medical supplies including personal protective equipment, an oxygen generator, oxygen tools and accessories, Covid-19 Rapid Diagnostic Tests kits, pulse oximeters and gloves from the Egyptian government.
He said 389 new Covid-19 cases had been detected out of 8, 596 tests giving a 4.5 percent positivity and discharged 425 patients 21 from facilities and 404 from community management), bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 199, 859.
Dr Malama said that in preparation for the registration and orientation of Members of Parliament to the first session of the 13th National Assembly, Ministry of Health and its Zambia National Public Health Institute would ensure prevention and control measures were put in place ahead of time.
