The Prisoner Re-Integration and Empowerment Organization (PREO) has challenged the new government to ensure the law that prohibits ex-inmates from being employed in the civil service is scrapped off.
PREO Executive Director Derick Malumo has also challenged government to clearly highlight the part of the constitution where this provision falls, engage stakeholders and make necessary amendments to it.
Mr Malumo said for as long as ex-inmates continue to be discriminated against, in terms of access to employment, the change from prisons to correctional facilities would not serve any purpose.
Mr Malumo said this during a joint press briefing with CELIM.
And CELIM, an Italian organization dealing with prisoners said there was need to create an enabling environment for those leaving prisons.
CELIM Project Assistant Marcelino Kambani said what happened after inmates serve their sentences was important and that a conducive environment was needed for them to re-integrate.
