APPOINTMENT OF ACTING LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE COMMISSION CHAIRPERSON REVOKED

By NATION REPORTER

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has revoked the acting appointment of Mr Beatrice Yevuka as the chairperson of the Local Government Service Commission and her membership to the commission nullified.

Ms Yevuka was appointed to act as   chairperson for administrative convenience on September 17, 2021.

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Gary Nkombo said the the Local Government Service Commission had also been dissolved.

Mr Nkombo said the responsibility of appointing and dropping of members of any commission was a prerogative of the President and he did not by any means appoint Ms. Yevuka.

He said this during a press briefing at Royal Laricio Lodge in Mazabuka yesterday.

Mr. Nkombo said the appointment of Ms Yevuka was in lin with the Service Commission Act No.10 of 2016 which states that in an instance of a vacancy of the Commission Chairperson, the vice chairperson assumes the acting position as chairperson until the President appoints another chairperson.

“Therefore Cabinet Office was guided by this Act in the appointment of Ms.Yevuka,” he explained.

Mr Nkombo said the President had reassured that the appointment of the Local Government Service Commissioners would be set as priority  after his  return from the United States of America.
