GERMANY EASES COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS ON ZAMBIA

THE Germany has removed all Covid-19 restrictions imposed on Zambia after declaring the country not a high-risk area.

According to a tweet by Germany Ambassador to Zambia, Anne Wagner-Mitchell her country did not consider Zambia as a Covid-19 high-risk area any more.

Ms Wagner said all Covid-19 related travel restrictions had been lifted after the country continued recording reduced numbers in covid-19 infections and deaths.

‘’As of midnight tonight, Germany does not consider Zambia as a Covid-19 high-risk area anymore and all Covid-19 related travel restrictions will be lifted,’’ Ms Wagner tweeted.

Meanwhile, Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) Director Victor Mukonka, said more countries would ease up on restrictions because Zambia was making strides to control the pandemic.

Dr Mukonka said that the country’s positivity rate had reduced to 0.7 positivity which was good because they initially targeted a positivity rate of 5 per cent.

‘’We expect more countries to ease restrictions on Zambia because the country is managing the Covid-19 well but there is need to adhere to the five golden rules,’’ he said.

He said there was need for Zambians to be prepared for a fourth Covid-19 wave and that it was dependent on three factors.

He said the first factor was the type variant because the virus had mutated from the initial one which had started in China.

Dr Mukonka said the other factor was how prepared the country was in terms of masking up and sanitising which would reduce the spread but that it would be a different if the nation was caught off-guard.

He said the more people that were immunized, the better it would be.
