WORKCOM Pension Trust Registered Trustees has sued Government over the failure by the Ministry of Education to settle rental arrears amounting to K288, 000.

The Pension company stated in a claim filed in the Lusaka High Court that in 2012, it entered into a lease agreement relating to House number 36K of Sable Road, Kabulonga, Lusaka.

The property was leased to the Ministry of Education for the purposes of housing its staff.

Workcom Pension stated that the ministry managed to settle all its outstanding rentals for the year 2012 .

It stated that the ministry however failed to settle rentals for 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

According to court documents, the ministry surrendered the property in October 2016 but without settlement of K288, 000.

“Despite the plaintiff serving demands for payment, the defendant has refused or neglected to settle the debt.

In consequence, the plaintiff has suffered loss and damage,” it stated.

Workcom Pension is also demanding interest and cost.
