….as Zanaco, Buffaloes face off in Super League showdown
By MICHAEL MIYOBA
AFTER an impressive run in the CAF Champions League where they progressed to the last preliminary round, Zanaco FC begin their MTN Super League campaign today when they host city rivals Green Buffaloes in a week three fixture at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka.
The bankers will aim to replicate their Champions League performance to start the local league on a positive note.
However, Kelvin Kaindu’s charges face a Green Buffaloes side which is motivated by the 1-0 victory over Nkwazi in their previous fixture.
Led by coach Justine Chinama, Buffaloes will aim to maintain a perfect start to have a chance of claiming leadership of the Super League table.
Meanwhile, defending champions Zesco United begin their title defence when they host promotion side Chambishi FC in a lunchtime kick off at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Zesco will be seeking a perfect start to the league after their disappointing preliminary round elimination from the CAF Champions League.
The Ndola giants are the favourites against a Chambishi FC side which hasn’t tasted defeat after picking two draws against Kafue Celtics and Indeni in the first two league matches.
In the second fixture of the double header at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Forest Rangers will host league leaders Buildcon FC in one of the many Ndola derbies.
After beating Green Eagles and Prison Leopards in the first two league games, Buildcon will aim for maximum points to maintain top spot on the league table.
At the Independence Stadium in Choma, rejuvenated Green Eagles will host Lusaka Dynamos who were held to a goalless draw by promoted Konkola Blades on Saturday.
After starting the league with a 1-0 home loss to Buildcon before beating Power Dynamos on Sunday, Green Eagles will be looking to avoid another home loss.
In other Super League fixtures scheduled for today, Promoted Kafue Celtic will seek to bounce back from Saturday’s 4-1 bashing by Forest Rangers when they host Indeni FC at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka.
At President Stadium in Kabwe, Prison Leopards will host struggling Power Dynamos who are targeting to bounce back from two consecutive defeats to Konkola Blades and Green Eagles in the first two league games.
Meanwhile, Kansanshi Dynamos host a Kabwe Warriors side that is seeking to forget their poor perfomance in the CAF Confederations Cup where they were eliminated in the preliminary round following a 2-1 defeat to CFFA of Madagascar.
Konkola Blades welcome Nkwazi at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe while tomorrow’s league action will see Red Arrows facing Nkana, at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.
