NEPHEW to late Zimbabwean former President Robert Mugabe, Leo, says the family will approach Government for discussions after the Chinhoi Magistrates court ordered that the remains of later leader be exhumed and reburied in Harare.
The magistrate also said the court dismissed an application by Mugabe’s children, who prayed for an order to stop the exhumation.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation, Mr Leo Mugabe said the family will plead with President Emmerson Mnangagwa to intervene and stop the exhumation of the remains.
“As a family of the late former President, we will soon meet the President to plead with him to block the exhumation, because we feel reburying him at National Heroes Acre, will go against his wish before he died,” said Mr Mugabe.
Mr Mugabe also claimed the family buried the late former president at the homestead as per his request before he passed away and therefore reburying him at the National Heroes acre will go against his spirit.
Chief Zvimba of Kutama recently fined former first lady, Grace Mugabe, five cattle and two goats for burying her husband at the family homestead in Kutama, which he said was against tradition.
In his ruling delivered in Shona, the traditional leader found that Grace Mugabe did not follow local traditions when burying her late husband.
