PF SET TO ELECT A NEW PRESIDENT

PF secretary general Davis Mwila has announced that he, party president Edgar Lungu and party chairperson Samuel Mukupa have offered to resign from their positions voluntarily in a bid to allow for the election of other people at a convention that will be held in due course.

Mwila announced at a briefing that the leaders that have offered to resign would however remain members of the central committee.
He said the process of identifying new leadership to take up the three positions among others, was in motion.

“As a party, we have started a process of bringing in new leaders. A transition of handing over the office of secretary general and office of the chairman. For these three positions, we (leadership) have made it clear that we are not going to continue. The party has to look for the president, a secretary general, a national chairman,” said Mwila.

“Acritical 52 of our constitution is very clear, on the position of the president. It is only one line. It states that the President shall be elected by the general conference. Whatever goes up must come down. No one is there forever.”
