SUSPECTED CADRES ENCROACH ON ROAD RESERVES

SUSPECTED political cadres have illegally demarcated a reserved land meant for road expansion along Kwale Road near Nyimba Milling in Lusaka’s Matero Constituency.
The suspected cadres have started encroaching land in Lusaka’s Matero Ward 28 area where they have started building in designated road reserves.
A check by the Daily Nation found people building structures along the road which is off Kwale Road near Nyimba Milling .
Residents are alarmed by the development as this posed danger as the road was being closed off.
A concerned resident Dennis Banda said the situation was disheartening because at one point the Fire Brigade even failed to reach a certain house which had caught fire due to the inaccessible roads.
He said they had appealed to the local authorities to intervene but that nothing had happened so far.
‘’Can you imagine that at one point the fire brigade could not extinguish a fire because people had built illegal structures on the road,’’ Mr Banda said.
Mr Banda said that the matter would degenerate if no action was taken by the relevant authorities.
He said he was shocked as to why the council had gone mute over the matter when they were given constant reminders over the matter.
Mr Banda called on President Hakainde Hichilema to curb the growing trend were cadres were victimising people.
‘’We are calling on the President to act on this matter because the situation will become something else if it is not nipped inthe bud,’’ he said.
