THE looting, undressing and brutalising of innocent citizens under the new regime is unacceptable and there is need for leadership to stop the menace, Chawama PF Member of Parliament Tasila Lungu has said.

Ms Lungu said it was heartbreaking to see citizens being terrorised when Government had assured everyone of safety.

She said during her maiden speech to parliament yesterday that the new regime needed to show leadership and deal with the unruly behaviour of its cadres.

“All we are seeing now are innocent citizens’ shops being looted, women undressed and police officers being hacked. This is unacceptable,” Ms Lungu said.

And Kasama Central MP, Sibongile Mwamba has urged the UPND government to stop politicking, start governing the country and fulfil campaign promises,

Debating on the motion of thanks to the President’s speech, Ms Mwamba told parliament that the Presidential speech was open ended without a timeframe, limits and duration.

She said that the speech was also a “copy and paste” of the PF manifesto, and a continuation of what the Patriotic Front left in place.

Ms Mwamba told the House that people need to know when they will have free education and when the price of mealie meal will be reduced among other campaign promises made by the UPND.

She said that campaign period is over and that it is time for Mr Hichilema to govern the country, adding that he should give projections and statistics when things will start happening and how it will happen.

“Madam Speaker the UPND government promised 30, 000 jobs for doctors and nurses the youth are waiting for, when is the time frame and in what sectors is he going to create employment.

“The 18 million people of Zambia are looking forward to what the President deliberated.

Ms Mwamba said that the Zambian people want to know the policy direction of the UPND government.

She observed that in his speech, President Hichilema mentioned that load shedding will come to an end when the PF government had already ended it and increased electricity generation capacity to 2, 800 megawatts.

“Madam Speaker UPND government say they will increase electricity generation to what capacity because the PF government increased the capacity to 2, 800 megawatts.

“When they told us they will be exporting electricity to other countries, the PF was already in talks over the exporting of electricity,” she said.

Ms Mwamba also added that development goals are not open ended.
