‘USE JET FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY’
By SIMON MUNTEMBA
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema should start using the Presidential jet on his foreign trips for his own safety, New Heritage Party (NHP) leader Chishala Kateka has advised.
Ms Kateka said the Presidential Gulf Stream Jet was bought to provide the much-needed security of the Head of State and his team whenever he was travelling out for national duties.
she said selling or refusing to use it presented a risk to his life.
She told the Daily Nation that her party was against the idea of selling the Presidential jet which was one of the tools necessary for the Presidency.
Ms Kateka said she understood the moral dilemma that President Hichilema was faced with after having promised to sell the jet while in opposition, but he must realise that the tools given to him by Zambians to carry out his mandate, included the Jet.
She said Zambians wanted their hearts to swell with national pride whenever he stepped off that jet.
Last week, UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa announced that President Hichilema had no intentions of using the Presidential Jet for any immediate assignments and that his position to sell it had not changed.
President Hichilema took a Qatar commercial flight to attend the 76th United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA.
