Veep hails warm ties with Sweden

VICE President Mutale Nalumango has noted the warm ties between Zambia and Sweden and the support given by the Swedish government to the various development processes in Zambia especially in the health sector.
Ms Nalumango said Zambia will continue to uphold peace in the nation despite the turbulence it faces at times.
Ms Nalumango said it is the priority for the UPND government to “recover, repair and revive” the economy in the midst of various challenges including climate change and Covid-19.
She said government wants to recover and repair everything that has been lost in all sectors in a systematic manner.
Speaking when a delegation from the Swedish embassy paid a courtesy call at her office yesterday, Ms Nalumango disclosed that the UPND government will ensure that the country’s economy is revived through collaboration with countries such as Sweden.
Ms Nalumango said in recognising these challenges, the new administration has put in place dedicated mechanisms to address the issues which are of paramount importance.
She said the newly created Ministry of Green Economy and Environment would address issues of climate change.
And Ms Nalumango alsosaid in recognising the importance of gender, this portfolio has been elevated to the Office of the Vice President to commit to ensuring that more female representation in the decision-making processes and other gender inequalities issues are addressed.
She said her office will work on addressing other gender inequalities as well as issues of gender based violence that has effected the country.
Meanwhile, Swedish Vice Minister for International Development Co-operation Ms Janine Alm Ericson said Sweden will forever work with Zambia not only in health, but also in economic recovery and to support the economy of the country.
She congratulated Zambians for the peaceful change of leadership which ushered in a new government under President Hakainde Hichilema.
