GBM TRIP STOPPED

THE Immigration Department yesterday stopped Mr Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) from travelling to South Africa on alleged instructions from higher authorities.
Mr Mwamba was however, later allowed to travel after missing his flight.
The Immigration Department finally allowed Mr Mwamba, who is also Patriotic Front (PF) National Mobilisation Mwamba to travel to South Africa after one and a half hours of interrogation on instructions from high offices.
Mr Mwamba was only allowed to travel after being interrogated for an hour and half by the Immigration at Kenneth Kaunda airport.
Mr Mwamba was allowed to board a flight at exactly 13:20 after missing his original flight around 11:00 hours due to the interrogation .
Earlier the Immigration stopped Mr Mwamba to travel to South Africa as it was a directive from higher authorities.
The Immigration did inform Mr Mwamba that higher authorities had indicated that he cannot travel as he is in court for various offences.
Mr Mwamba told the Daily Nation in an interview.
On Thursday Mr Mwamba’s lawyers wrote to the Immigration to allow him to travel, but the Director General did indicate that the permission could only be granted after consulting relevant authorities.
“Reference is made above and your letters dated June 15, 2022, we are in receipt of the letter requesting us to advise whether there are any restrictions on your client to travel to South Africa.
Kindly be informed that we are yet to consult relevant stakeholders and will respond in reasonable time,” the Director General said.
