LUSAMBO ARRESTED OVER 2019 ASSAULT CASE

POLICE have charged and arrested PF Kabushi Member of Parliament Bowman Lusambo for allegedly assaulting two people in 2019.

It is alleged that on the day in question in 2019 two members of the National Democratic Congress Party (NDC) were assaulted by Mr Lusambo and some Patriotic Front (PF) cadres. Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has confirmed the arrest of Mr Lusambo in a statement.

Mr Hamoonga said Mr Lusambo aged 43 of house number 36 Chamba Valley in Lusaka was charged and arrested for the offences of unlawful wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm which occurred on April 11, 2019 during by-elections.

He identified the two victims as Ms Mary Musonda who sustained some lacerations and general body pains and Mr Stanley Musukwa, who sustained a deep cut on the head. Mr Hamoonga said Mr Lusambo had been released on Police Bond and was scheduled to appear before the Luanshya Subordinate Court soon.

Mr Lusambo also confirmed the arrest on his Facebook page. Meanwhile, Mr Hamoonga said criminals have shot dead a police officer manning Kalemse toll gate in Kasama. He said the criminals also raped two women who were working at the tollgate and went away with K38, 425 cash.

Mr Hamoonga said that police had launched a man hunt in cases of murder, aggravated robbery and rape. “The incident occurred between 02:00 hours and 04:00 hours at Kalense toll gate in Kasama in which a Police officer under the Protective Unit, Constable Wilson Lungu aged 28 was shot twice in the chest and left leg by the unknown criminals and died on the spot,” Mr Hamoonga said. He said the officer was on duty with two female toll collectors, employees of the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) in Kasama when they were attacked by unknown armed criminals.

 “Upon viewing the CCTV footage, the footage shows a criminal armed with a pistol, clad with a headsock and mask while holding a torch, who shot the officer twice in the chest and on his left leg in one of the rooms,” he said.
