SENIOR CIVIL SERVANTS TARGETED FOR DISMISSALS – NDOYI
By SIMON MUNTEMBA
A CARTEL of politicians in the UPND Alliance have ganged up against senior civil servants instigating their dismissals hoping that they would be appointed, former Zambia National Students Union (ZANASU) vice president Prince Ndoyi has claimed.
Mr Ndoyi claimed that the firing of former Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General, Mr Kingsley Chanda was instigated by the same cartel.
He said in an interview that some politicians belonging to the UPND Alliance not been appointed by President Hakainde Hichilema have ganged up against senior civil servants instigating their dismissals for personal gains.
Mr Ndoyi however said Government jobs were not the preserve of citizens with a political inclination towards those in the ruling party but for all citizens with requisite qualifications.
“We are aware that there is a cartel of politicians who have ganged up against senior civil servants and are instigating their dismissals in the hope that they will be appointed.
But we warn them to stop it because Government is not only about a political party in power but an all-inclusive system which does not discriminate against qualified citizens on the basis of perceived political inclination,” Mr Ndoyi said.
Mr Ndoyi advised Government stop entertaining what he termed as “social media chit chats” because it risked losing credibility as well as cause the loss of confidence in ZRA by not only the country’s stakeholders but the international community.
He added, “we hope that is not the case and culture they want set as precedence. Otherwise all those civil servants including teachers and nurses who were employed between 2011 and 2021 should be fired.”
Mr Ndoyi said there was nothing wrong with retaining senior Government officials who had performed, adding that Mr Chanda had not only met the expectations of the Zambians but surpassed it by far.
“There are many civil servants who deserved to be in their positions, take for instance PS, Dr Jobbicks Kalumba has revolutionised the education sector. There is no need to retire such individuals just for the sake of it,” he said.
