One gunshot was fired in the air to control the cadres who also wanted to smash Mr Shakfuswa’s vehicle.
This happened immediately after the adjournment of the Mandevu Parliamentary petition hearing for continued trial,in a case where losing UPND candidate Aaron Mulope had asked the Lusaka High Court to nullify the election of Mr Shakafuswa as Mandevu MP citing violence and corruption.
Efforts by police officers to rescue a defenceless witness failed as the unruly political cadres overpowered the officers who also got injured.
He said the Police officers were overpowered by the cadres who mercilessly took turns in punching, slapping and kicking his witness.
Mr Shakafuswa however said the officers managed to drag Mr Tompwe into the court building. The officers were also injured and had their uniforms torn.
He said Mr Tompwe was taken to Chipata Level One Hospital to receive medical attention.
The cadres mercilessly pushed police officers in a bid to pull Mr Tompwe out of their clasp, but one officer held on
for dear life. When Mr Tompwe fell on the shrubs at the High of the High Court building to rescue the two. Court, the officer fell with him and another officer rushed out As they rushed inside the court building the UPND cadres were on their heels pulling and throwing punches while trying to drag Mr Tompwe outside.
