UPND CADRES WANT TO ‘EAT’ TOO
By ADRIAN MWANZA
FORMER UPND vice president Canisius Banda has warned that President Hakainde Hichilema risked an uprising from his supporters who voted him in power if they do not feel appreciated or “eat” with him.
Dr Banda said the UPND members fought for power so that they “eat” and that now that they were in power it was a narrative that they should do so. He said the President should find a way of ensuring that while he was still feeding the cow, or explaining rock theories and fixing the economy, his followers were “eating.”
Dr Banda said failure by President Hichilema would make these expectant and famished followers of his to “eat” him. “They waited long enough whilst in the opposition and urging them to wait further whilst having power is frustrating, confusing and hurtful to them,” Dr Banda said.
He said understandably, it indeed was their turn to “eat” but that the President needed to find a way of dealing with his people whom they had promised. Most Zambians voted for President Hichilema with the hope of them getting jobs however the expectations have simmered as the new dawn had not yet fulfilled the promise.
