THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) should address concerns raised by political players in the electoral process such as accountability in the totaling process to gain the confidence of the people, veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga has said.
Dr. Mwaanga said the ECZ has had a difficult time mainly because stakeholders have not been happy with the manner in which the commission has been conducting the electoral process.
He said in an interview that the ECZ should ensure transparency in the totaling system by seeing to it that the entire process is clear and open to all players.
Dr. Mwaanga said having a transparent vote totaling process is very critical because that is where possible mischief could take place.
“It’s important for citizens or stakeholders to have confidence in the ECZ because that is where problems start.
“It’s where problems started in many other countries which have led to the wars,” he said.
Dr. Mwaanga urged the ECZ not to be quick to blame Zambians for being critical but ensure that they listen carefully to the concerns raised,” he said.
