OPPOSITION PF have sued social media blogger Chitambala Mwewa for defamation for accusing the party of pocketing monies collected from City Market in Lusaka.
PF Secretary General Davies Mwila and Lusaka City Council employee, MwenyaMatafwali, are demanding that Mwewa pays them damages for slander and libel.
They are also claiming aggrevated and exemplary damages for slander and libel.
The duo seeks an order of injuction preventing Mr Mwewa from repeating the defamatory statements until determination of the case.
They in addition want the defendant to render a public apology as well as interests on any sums found due from the date of writ to the date of full settlement.
According to documents filed into the Lusaka High Court, Mr Mwewa on August 29, 2021 published on his Facebook page that during PF’s reign, all the monies collected from City Market used to be channeled to Mr Mwila and then a small amount would be sent to LCC.
The duo stated that the published words in their natural and ordinary meaning state that the duo are thieves and misappropriated government funds.
The words also meant that they cannot be entrusted with public funds,are corrupt and criminals that abused power.
Therefore the image of the party, Mr Mwila and Mr Matafwali have been put in disrupt in the public eye.
