‘Water problems causing diarrhoea’
By ADRIAN MWANZA
ZAMBIA has problems in the water supply and sanitation in the country and it is the reason the New Dawn government has set up a ministry specifically to deal with that to avoid the spread of diseases like diarrhoea, says Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo.
Ms Masebo said that water supply was a problem in Zambia regardless of whether in town or rural areas.
She said this in her ministerial statement in parliament yesterday and pledged that Government would allocate money to the improvement of water supply.
Ms Masebo said government was working tirelessly to ensure that Zambians got clean drinking water to reduce the levels of diarrhoea diseases which came about as a result of water contamination. She said that the ministry of Health was also working with other stake holders to sensitise people on the dangers of using shallow wells because they were easily contaminated and a source of diseases like cholera.
She said that she was sure that water challenges would be a thing of the past this year.
