Budget implementation is key – Chief Cooma

By OLIVER SAMBOKO

IT is a good budget but what the people of Zambia will be most interested in is the actual implementation of the set goals by the UPND government, Chief Cooma of Southern Province has said.

Chief Coona said as a partner in development, he would ensure that he supports the new dawn Government to achieve that which it has proposed in the budget, but was however, quick to mention that the failure or success of the budget would all depend on timely disbursement of funds.

“It’s a very positive document, but as they say “the proof of the pudding is in the eating,” what Zambians will be waiting for now is the full implementation of those proposed items,” he said.

The Traditional leader also said increment in CDF allocationmeans Members of Parliament would have no excuse to fail to deliver development to their constituencies as was the case in the past where government only provided K1.6 Million annually.

He said many citizens were looking forward to see the proposals in the 2022 National budget being fulfilled so that their living standards could be improved and uplifted.

Chief Cooma said the intention to recruit 30,000 new teachers and over 11,000 health workers, if implemented, was one way in which Government would be able to reduce unemployment levels in the country.

He said many of his subjects who were trained in various fields have remained unemployed for a long time and was therefore optimistic that the employment opportunities announced in the budget will benefit all.

The traditional leader also thanked government for abolishing tuition, Parent- teacher Association (PTA) fees, and examination fees, saying this will allow more vulnerable children to attain education.
