A POLICE officer, Fanwell Nyundu, alleged to have shot dead State Prosecutor Nsama Nsama Chipyoka and UPND member Joseph Kaunda, has pleaded not guilty to the charges in the Lusaka High Court.
Appearing before High Court Judge Joshua Banda yesterday, Nyundu, 25, of Matero Township is charged with the two counts of murders that occurred on December 23, 2020 when Mr Hakainde Hichilema as UPND leader, appeared at the police headquarters for questioning. In the first count, particulars of offence are that on December 23, 2020, Nyundu murdered Mr. Nsama who was shot dead as he was entering a restaurant located next to Cabinet Office and some metres from the National Prosecutions Authority headquarters.
In the second count, particulars of offence are that Nyundu murdered Kaunda, a Kafue resident who was part of the UPND supporters who had thronged the police headquarters and nearby areas to offer solidarity to Mr. Hichilema. Asked if he understood the two charges, a calm looking Nyundu answered in the affirmative. When asked if he was accepting or denying having committed the two offences, Nyundu responded with a plea of not guilty. The matter was adjourned to November 10, 2021 for commencement of trial.
