K54, 000 NEEDED FOR KAPULA-CHILOBWE BRIDGE

By ROGERS KALERO

ABOUT K54, 000 is needed for the construction of Kapula-Chilobwe bridge on Kamabanda stream to connect Kitwe and Lufwanyama districts in Luto ward of Wusakile constituency.

Luto ward councillor Rodgers Chanda said it was important that funds were made available to construct the bridge on Kamabanda stream to ease the transportation of people, agricultural inputs and produce between the two districts.

In an interview in Kitwe at the weekend, Mr Chanda said the absence of the bridge on Kamabanda stream has been forcing women to undress up to the thighs when crossing the stream especially after a down pour.

“We need about K54,000 to construct the bridge on Kamabanda stream to ease the transportation of people, agricultural inputs and produce between the two districts.  The stream has had no bridge for a long time forcing women to undress up to the thighs when crossing the stream especially after a heavy down pour.

“So when men find women crossing the stream, they have to look elsewhere so that women can cross properly . So we are just hoping that funds for the construction of the bridge will be available,” Mr Chanda said.

Mr Chanda said, once the bridge was constructed, people in the area like farmers, teachers and civil servants in general will benefit through improved transport system.

Mr Chanda commended the area Member of Parliament (MP) Pavyuma Kalobo and Mayor Mpasa Mwaya for their support towards lobbying and supporting developmental projects in various wards,  constituencies and District as a whole .

He said the two leaders have always being inspirational in the way they handle various challenges and problems facing councillors in their respective wards.

“Yes, we are in opposition, but we have not been abandoned by our MPs, particularly our Wusakile MP Pavyuma Kalobo and our Mayor Mpasa Mwaya. Our MP and Mayor have been emphasising on team work and delivering campaign promises,” he said.
