LUMUMBA BUS STATION OPEN TO ALL – COURT
LUMUMBA BUS STATION OPEN TO ALL – COURT
By LUCY PHIRI NO bus driver should be stopped from operating at Lumumba Bus station in Lusaka, Lusaka Magistrate Felix Kaoma has said.
Mr Kaoma said yesterday this state of affairs will continue pending hearing of the matter before court. This is in the matter in which George Hanzekulu, Dan Zulu and others have dragged Nicholas Silooka, William Kalumba and others to court for stopping them from operating at Lumumba Bus Station.
When the matter came up in court, Mr Kaoma tasked Mr. Silooka the bus station chairperson and Mr. Kalumba to ensure other drivers are allowed to operate in the station. This was after the court was informed that Mr. Silooka and Mr. Kalumba have been stopping others from operating in the station despite an official from State House having directed that no one should be stopped.
Mr Kaoma said those who will disobey the order will be used as an example to others by the court. He said the position of government is that bus stations will be operated by Councils and not drivers. Mr Kaoma further told the defendants that President Hakainde Hichilema does not support illegalities.
He said people at the station should not use the President’s name to commit offences. The matter has been adjourned to the 9th of December 2021.
