THE Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti has ordered Monze MP and Home Affairs and National security to issue a statement on the road traffic accident involving Correctional Service officers who died while escorting the Zambia Correctional Service Commissioner General Fredrick Chilukutu.
Making a ruling on a motion of matter of urgency, raised by Kabushi Member of Parliament, Bowman Lusambo, yesterday, the speaker directed Mr Mwiimbu to render his Ministerial statement not later than Wednesday next week.
In his motion, Mr Lusambo, who is one of the vocal MPs in the current parliament, sought the Speaker’s serious ruling on the matter.
He said two officers based in Kabwe died while escorting the commissioner general of Correctional Services.
Mr Lusambo said before the incident involving the death of the two officers, another accident had happened.
He said the officers involved, had been escorting the new commissioner general since he was appointed in his position by the new President Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr Lusambo said, he is aware that since his appointment, the commissioner general has been commuting between Lusaka and Kabwe.
He said the arrangement has put the lives of officers who escort him in great danger, also adding that even the members of the public have in the process been put in great danger.
He wondered why the new dawn government has failed to provide accommodation for the commissioner in Lusaka to avoid the unnecessary risks.
“This new dawn government has failed to provide accommodation to a person who they appointed as commissioner general of the Correctional Service,” he said.
Mr Lusambo said following the accident that claimed the lives of innocent officers, government should tell the nation if they have failed to provide accommodation to the person whom they appointed to lead the prison service.
