UPND CADRES HARASS MATERO RESIDENTS?

By SILUMESI MALUMO

A GROUP of unruly suspected UPND cadres on Saturday evening went on rampage brutalising people in Lusaka’s Matero Township while demanding money.

And Zambia Police has advised those affected to report to the nearest police station so that the matter can be followed up.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has appealed to the residents to report the matter to the nearest police post.

Mr Hamoonga said it will be easy to address the situation at hand if the matter is reported to police.

In an interview yesterday, he said as long as the people are just complaining it will be difficult to handle the matter.

“We have a lot of people complaining about people harassing them, but we cannot do anything with such. So the best way is for the residents to report to police then it will be addressed,” he said.

The cadres were reportedly harassing residents and demanding for money claiming that it was now their time to benefit from their sweat for campaigning for President Hakainde Hichilema.

The cadres were boasting that they have powers to do anything and the police were afraid of them because they were now the owners of Matero.

One of the residents, Mr Jackson Tembo said this is the first time they were seeing cadres attacking people in their homes.
