 By MUKWIMA CHILALA

Shabby Chilekwa, former President Edgar Lungu’s barber man accused of killing a cadre in Kaoma has been sporadically and consistently beaten at some hideout in Kalundu and Police Headquarters, his lawyers have revealed.

Mr Makebi Zulu said yesterday after a whole day of crisscrossing the city in search of Mr Chilekwa found that he was in bad shape and in need of medical attention after being tortured by police.

Mr Zulu said police were shifty and not acting professionally, forcing him to obtain a court order to access his client.

Mr Chilekwa has been in detention for the past five days having been picked by police last Friday.

It alleged Chilekwa shot and killed a UPND supporter Lawrence Banda during the Kaoma by-election.

The Police are yet to charge him for any offence and spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said they would issue a statement on the matter soon.

Mr Zulu said they were yesterday granted access to their client after obtaining a court order of habeas corpus for their client to be taken to court.

Speaking after visiting Mr Chilekwa  at Central Police  holding hells yesterday , Mr Zulu said that they had indeed seem for themselves  that their client has been  assaulted after undergoing torture for the past five days .

Mr Zulu added that a named Police officer colluding with a named UPND cadre have been leading the torture and that he has been denied an opportunity to seek medical attention.

And Mr Zulu said they will go back to court today to obtain and order to have him seek medical attention.

And Mr Raphael Nakachinda said what was happening was a shame.

Earlier yesterday Patriotic Front PF vice president Given Lubinda along with acting Party General Secretary Nixon Chilangwa and other senior members had stormed the Lusaka central Police seeking answers as to the  where about of Mr Chlekwa who has been in detention since Friday last week .
