ARCHBISHOP MPUNDU’S BITTERNESS TOWARDS PF WORRYING

By GIDEON NYENDWA

THE continued bitterness being exhibited by former Lusaka Archbishop Telesphore Mpumndu against the former ruling Patriotic Front is worrying, says Evangelical Youth Alliance (EYA) president Reverend Moses Lungu.

Rev. Lungu said it was worrying that even when the PF was out of power, Bishop Mpundu had continued issuing hate statements against them.

He said that the bishop should learn something from what happened to the PF when they were in power, they used to say that Hakainde Hichilema would never become president but he is now President of the country.

Rev. Lungu said   Archbishop Mpundu was wrong to suggest that the former ruling party should stop dreaming about bouncing back into power basing this on the past governments that had gone and never returned.

“Times have changed, he shouldn’t be too confident,” he said.

He was commenting on Archbishop Mpundu’s sentiments as quoted in some daily tabloids suggesting that the PF should stop dreaming about going back to the State House because they were wounded.

Rev. Lungu however said that what the bishop should be doing right now was to preach peace and words that would unite the country instead of taking political sides as he had always been doing in the past.

He said the clergy were supposed to be issuing words of encouragement to all the people including those that were wounded so that they could have hope.

Rev Lungu said in politics anything could happen and President Hichilema had proved that himself because no one ever gave him a chance that he could rule this nation.

He said the Archbishop once went to bed with PF before President Michael Sata died and after that he developed hatred for the party.

Rev. Lungu said everyone now knew that Archbishop Mpundu was politically aligned with the UPND that was why he had been consistent about the PF’s downfall.

He said the Archbishop was a respected figure in the country and he ought to be fair with his judgements for people to respect him even more.
