Chongwe municipal council mayor, Christopher Habeenzu has donated a wheelchair to an eleven year old disabled girl, Chikondi Mulenga of Madido ward in Chongwe.

Speaking during the handover, Mr. Habeenzu said that he was pleased to provide assistance to the needy in society. He also thanked a faith based organization, Campus for Christ Crusade-Zambia for facilitating the procurement of the wheelchair.

He was delighted that Campus Crusade for Christ Crusade-Zambia for their collaborative efforts to assist the child. He pointed out that the wheelchair would help the child whose parents were unable to procure a wheelchair.

He said that the donation of the wheelchair was donated after the area councilor, Janet Chisenga presented the request to his office.

He further highlighted the importance of helping children in circumstances of this magnitude to achieve their dreams in any small way possible. He therefore urged other well-wishers to emulate the gesture to reach out to the needy in the community.

“We all have limitations but some are more severe than others. It takes the efforts of others to come in and help, so I hope that this gesture goes a long way in bettering the life of Chikondi,” he said.

He stressed the importance of identifying people in need through the use of councilors in their wards in order to ensure that they are also given assistance.

And Chikondi’s mother, Christine Phiri expressed gratitude for the kind gesture, stating that it will go a long way in helping better her daughter’s life. She also thanked the area councilor for bringing the plight of the child to the attention of the mayor.
