NEVERS Mumba and his cronies at the MMD secretariat secretly sold party vehicles and other property that is why they should be chucked out of the party, suspended MMD New Hope Munali Constituency chairperson, Rupiah Muyunda has said.
But when contact for a comment MMD spokesperson Nephas Mukuka said he could not make a comment and referred all queries to youth spokesperson, Carol Mushota who also said, “Just send me a voice note or a text message so that I pass it on to our youth chairperson. I will respond to you after consulting the party leadership.”
Mr Muyunda challenged the Nevers Mumba-led executive to deny if they had not secretly sold party vehicles that were retrieved from former officials.
Mr Muyunda, who was suspended for gross indiscipline after calling for the resignation of Dr Mumba, as party president, said his suspension was null and void because he was not given an opportunity to exculpate himself.
He said in an interview that what he raised that led to his illegal suspension were real issues that every genuine member was not happy with.
He claimed that the party executive led by Dr Mumba secretly shared and sold vehicles among themselves that were retrieved from former MMD officials.
“After the internal wrangles we had, the court ruled that Dr Nevers Mumba-led camp was the legitimate party leaders. The other faction left with vehicles, and when Dr Mumba took over leadership, they began recovering vehicles.
“It is those same vehicles that are being sold privately instead of giving the party. They are selling them straight away. Some of them are being shared among themselves,” he said.
He challenged the party leadership to deny if what he raised were cooked up stories.
“A lot of MMD members are aggrieved and have been calling me in solidarity. They are unhappy with Dr Mumba’s leadership,” he charged.
Mr Muyunda also said he would not accept the suspension because he was not given an opportunity to defend himself.
He said he would not go anywhere but fight within the party to ensure the right thing was done.
On Monday, Mr Muyunda, who is also MMD New Hope Munali Constituency chairperson, said Dr Mumba should resign and call for a convention because the party general membership had lost confidence in his leadership.
