CSO’s silence
By Nation Reporter
Churches Council of Zambia (CCZ) General Secretary Fr Emmanuel Chikoya says it is hypocritical for opposition Patriotic Front (PF) to expect the same church leaders they insulted to speak for them.
Fr Chikoya says it is surprising that the PF would expect the same Church mother bodies they insult and called names while in power to speak for them on the same wrong they were warned against.
He says the opposition PF members are reaping what they sow and should not blame anyone for their predicament.
Fr Chikoya says the Church mother bodies have always spoken out on issues to do with illegalities in government regardless of which party is in power.
He states that PF ordered the church mother bodies to stay away from politics and commenting on similar issues they want them to speak about.
Fr Chikoya says upon assuming power in 2011, PF arrested people and were involved in corruption and that no church mother body defended any corrupt individual.
He has since urged politicians to take this as a lesson to silence the media, CSOs and church mother bodies as they are of great importance in the preservation of Democracy.
Fr. Chikoya states that the issue of the speakers ruling is not an issue that the Church can comment on without consultation from the Law Association of Zambia who are well informed about such matters.
Fr. Chikoya states that PF should not forget the injustices and illegalities they caused when they were in power and when the Church spoke they ordered it to stay away from politics.
Meanwhile, Former Lusaka Archbishop Telesphore George Mpundu has said Prof Nkandu Luo is just licking the pain from her wounds after losing an election when she thought she would be vice president.
He says when the media and the church were being silenced by PF for speaking for the people of Zambia and that Prof Luo was silent.
The Bishop states that it is not all matters that the Church should give comments on.
He says there are so many people speaking about illegalities and those are enough.
Bishop Mpundu said it was good that the people of Zambia are now able to speak freely especially the media.
He said PF that wanted the church to speak for them closed media houses for allowing people to speak out on illegalities that the former government committed.
Bishop Mpundu said PF was reaping the fruits of what they planted when they were still in government.
And Independent Churches of Zambia (ICOZ) President Masupa has assured professor Luo that the Church is not afraid of speaking about illegalities happening in the new dawn Government.
Bishop Masupa says the ruling made by the speaker of the National Assembly was shocking.
He said the people of Zambia were now patiently waiting for the outcome of the judicial review from the constitutional court.
He has since appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema to not be influenced by social media when it comes to running the affairs of the country as presidency is a huge responsibility.
