THE reopening of old cases for investigation by the police should include the UPND Armageddon that was initiated as a means of retaliation to PF attacks in the 2016 elections, Citizens Democratic Party president Robert Mwanza has said.
Mr. Mwanza said it could not be true that all the claims that the police and investigative wings were pursuing were only done by members of the same party.
He said it was unfortunate that the police were being used as a weapon to persecute members of the former ruling party.
Mr. Mwanza said the selective approach to the cases that were committed in the past was seriously worrying because the law was expected to be applied fairly.
He said there were a lot of cases dating as far back as 2000 that were of great importance to the country that needed to be followed up but it was surprising that the police only chose to go back within the time PF was in power.
“It is clear that this is made to persecute those who served under PF,” he said.
He said that there was an amageddon that was perpetrated by UPND in their strongholds in which PF sympathizers were attacked but neither the police nor the executive was talking about that.
Mr. Mwanza said the government had chosen to turn a blind eye to the offences that were committed by their members which was not supposed to be the case for a people that claim to be fostering the rule of law.
He also said that the UPND government had failed to deliver on most of their promises that was why they had a witch hunt against members of the former ruling party so that they are seen to be working.
