AS the country celebrates Christmas under the new dawn government, it is important to remember the less privileged in society. Not everyone has the ability to celebrate Christmas with the fanfare that the rich indulge in. Mostly, the less privileged will watch from afar. They will see the bright lights and fire works explosions high in the sky.Much as they may long to experience that, financial inability make it impossible and their participation is limited to the imagination.This being a period when brotherly and sisterly love is supposed to be in abundance, we hope that there are more people sharing the Christmas cheer with the less privileged. For the children in orphanages, a few drinks and balloons is all they desire to while away the time.Indeed Christmas is defined differently according to one’s culture and religious beliefs. For Christians, it is about reflecting upon the incarnation miracle where the son of the Almighty creator of the universe who once existed only in the spirit realm transitioned and became flesh and blood and just like man and was given a name “Jesus.”The birth of Jesus Christ symbolizes God’s love for humanity therefore as we commemorate it we should reflect and ask ourselves; what are we remembering? What are we celebrating? We are remembering God’s love for man as well as celebrating it.As families, friends and communities merry during this festive season, it is important to reflect on what is truly important to us, our connections, our values, career choices, service of others and so much more. Christmas should teach man how to sacrifice for love just like God sacrificed his only begotten son for us out of love. As a Nation that is trying to unite after a fiercely contested election, we ought to be reminded this Christmas that we have cause to celebrate our love and cultural diversity we share with each other because what unites us is stronger than that which seeks to divide us. We may belong to and believe in different political ideologies but our common denominator is that we are all citizens of a Christian Nation. Therefore this Christian festive season should remind us that love for one another is our greatest commandment. 2021 being an election year has been a very difficult year. Many have suffered in one way or another but that suffering cannot deprive people of the joy and celebration because as one Zambia One Nation we have once again proved that unity and love conquers. As we celebrate Christmas together and cross over to 2022 we should find comfort in celebrating Christmas because it teaches us of God’s power to create from nothing as evidenced by the miraculous birth of Jesus.This miraculous birth we are celebrating today proves God’s promise of salvation to his own people. As the nation marches into 2022, we should do so, knowing everyone has a greater responsibility to help develop the country.
