UPND not shaken over choosing Kabwata candidate

By ADRIAN MWANZA
The UPND is not sweating on who will succeed late Kabwata MP Levy Mkandawire after big wigs in the party circles have showed interest in the seat, says UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa.
Mr Mweetwa in an interview said the party was not under pressure and would choose a candidate that represented the ideals of the Alliance.

Two notable figures in former minister Obvious Mwaliteta and Alliance spokesperson Leslie Chikuse have both declared their intentions.
But Mr Mweetwa said most people thought the Alliance would split especially when choosing candidates but passed that obstacle very well.

He said that the issue would be resolved despite a number big wigs showing interest in the seat.
‘’I do not want to jump the gun because the person who is best suited for this is the chairperson for elections but I’m sure that we going to choose the best candidate for the Kabwata seat,’’ he said.
Mr Mweetwa said that the Kabwata seat will definitely be retained by the ruling party unlike what had happened in Kaumbwe which was a PF stronghold.

He called on those that were aspiring for the seat to put the party’s interests first instead of their personal agendas.
‘’I’m very sure that we are going to retain the seat which was left vacant by the late Levy Mkandawire who died in a tragic accident last month,” he said.
