ACC A TOOL FOR UPND AGAINST ENEMIES

By GIDEON NYENDWA

THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is being used as a tool to fight political battles for the UPND against the perceived political opponents from the previous regime, New Congress Party President Peter Chanda has said.

Pastor Chanda said that he was disappointed in the way investigative wings were targeting members of the PF and all those who were perceived to be aligned to the former ruling party.

He was commenting on the raid on prominent music promoter Bwalya Kalandanya  on Thursday by a joint team of investigative wings.

Pastor Chanda said that Mr Kalandanya had been a prominent businessman before the PF came into power and it was shocking that just because he supported musicians who did campaign songs for the party does not have to make him a target.

He said Mr Kalandanya was an accomplished businessman who had a track record of business in money lending and other activities and supporting a certain political party does not make him corrupt.

Pastor Chanda said that Mr Kalandanya had never worked in government and the UPND administration wanted to recover assets that were stolen from public resources.

“How is he connected to public resources,” he said.

He also said that it was now a crime for rich people to support political parties of their choice.  “When did it become a crime?”

A number of high profile individuals including Mr Alexander Chikwanda, Ronald Chitotela, Kebby Mbewe, Amos Chanda and Bowman Lusambo have been visited by ACC and questioned.
