Accept criticism, UPND supporters told
By KALOBWE BWALYA
UPND members should not intimidate and threaten the opposition for criticizing President Hakainde Hichilema because they also used to do the same to former republican President Edgar Lungu when he was in state house, Advocate for Human Rights movement Zambia Chisenga Kasonde has said.
Mr Musonda said Mr Lungu was insulted and called names by the then opposition UPND party as well as other members of the public but no one came to his defense, therefore the ruling party should not take offense when people criticize President Hichilema.
In an interview, Mr Musonda stated that there is nothing wrong especially from the former ruling party PF as well as members of the public issuing checks and balances or criticizing the head of state.
Mr Musonda however advised the critics to do that within the confine of the law and ensure that they do no defame the President.
Mr Musonda said Zambia being a democratic republic, UPND supporters as well as the sympathizers of the UPND government should realise that people have a right to issue checks and balances where things are not moving well .
He said President Lungu was insulted and called all sorts of names, but he never responded to anyone because he was a leader and that was expected.
“There is nothing wrong for the PF and other members of the public to continue issuing checks and balance to the government in power , but they should also bear it in mind that their criticism should be mature and not malicious, “ said Mr Musonda.
Lately, opposition PF including other political parties have continuously been criticizing the head of state on various issues that are affecting the country as well as its citizenly.
