ARREST WILLIAM BANDA, DEMANDS MUSOMA

By OLIVER SAMBOKO
THE Zambia Police should stop playing double standards and immediately arrest UPND cadre William Banda for proposing and inciting violence in Kabwata, Zambia Republican Party leader Wright Musoma has said.

Mr Banda, who is UPND chairman for special duties, and well known for engineering and participating in political violence from the UNIP and MMD days, recently threatened to crush the Patriotic Front in the Kabwata by-election.
Mr Musoma said in an interview that just like the way the Police have arrested PF Member of the Central Committee, Raphael Nakachinda for the offences of proposing violence Contrary to Section 91 (1)(C), the same thing should happen to Mr Banda.

He said the alleged crime the police have arrested Mr Nakachinda for is the same under which Mr Banda a senior UPND member should be detained for, failure to that, Mr Nakachinda should be let free.

Mr Musoma said it’s unfair for the law enforcement wing to arrest Mr Nakachinda when Mr William Banda who was the first one to commit the crime is freely roaming the streets of Lusaka without any summoning by the police.
He said the behavior by the police to intimidate members of the opposition is against President Hakainde Hichilema’s pronouncement and promise that his government was going to be fair and just.

Mr Musoma said Zambians will not fold their arms and watch the police play double standards by arresting only those perceived to be against the ruling party.
He has since called on the head of state to call the police to order and demand that they carry out their duties in a professional and fair manner.
