FOUR UPND cadres have been arrested by police in Kasama in connection with the assault on the District Administration Officer (DAO), Beauty Namukoko.
Inspector General of Police, Remmy Kajoba said in a statement that perceived UPND youths have been apprehended on charges of assault and theft and are in police custody.
Mr. Kajoba said the four suspects are Andrew Sichimba 27, Bornface Kaonga 30, Nathan Phiri 22 and Costern Kalimwengo aged 24 all of Kasama.
He said one suspect is reported to have fled, however he would soon be found and arrested.
Mr. Kajoba said the suspects would appear in court soon on charges of assault and theft which occurred on January 21, 2011 in Kasama.
Suspected UPND cadres on Friday mercilessly assaulted Ms Namukoko on allegations that she refused to process their papers for the youth empowerment programme because she was a PF supporter.
The victim sustained swollen forehead, cut on the middle finger of the left hand, swollen right cheek and general body pains and in the process lost her phone and money amounting to K1, 000.
