CONSTITUTION REVIEW PROCESS STARTS

PROCESSES are underway to review the republican constitution, Minister of Justice Mulambo Haimbe has said.

Mr Haimbe said Government had received submissions from stakeholders on the mode of the constitution review process.

He said there was a possibility of using the Inquiries Act though majority of submissions were proposing a technical review of the previous drafts.

Mr Haimbe said the constitution review process would not be rushed so that the country could have a document that would stand the test of time.

He said Government wished to

undertake a holistic review that would include part three of the constitution of the bill of rights.

Mr Haimbe said the new dawn administration is trying by all means to avoid piecemeal amendments of the republican constitution so that Zambians are given a people-driven constitution that will stand the test of time.

“Government is actively reviewing the Public Order Act, Children’s Court Bill and Penal Code for presentation in the February legislation session,” he said.

Mr Haimbe said necessary approvals were being sought so that the bills could be presented to parliament for possible amendments.
