THE Kitwe City Council (KCC) is issuing notices of demolition of shelters erected by bus operators at the temporal bus station on Kabengele road failure to which the local authority will demolish them at their cost,” Town Clerk Mbulo Seke has said.

And Mayor Mpasa Mwaya has said the council will soon remove the temporal bus station on Kabengele road following numerous complaints from various stakeholders that it has been a nuisance to the pupils at Sacred Heart Secondary School and the business community.

In an interview in Kitwe yesterday, Mr Seke said the issuing of demolition notices was the beginning of the removal of the temporal bus station from Kabengele road to KMB following a council resolution .

“The KCC will issue notices of demolition of shelters erected by bus operators at the temporal bus station on Kabengele road failure to which the local authority will demolish them at their cost.
“I can state that this is the beginning of the removal of the temporal bus station from Kabengele road to Kitwe Main Bus (KMB) bus station by the local authority following a council resolution to relocate them to KMB ,” Mr Seke said.

Mr Seke said only bus service operators requiring new slot or shelter at the Kitwe Main Bus (KMB) station will be prioritised while those with slots or shelters will at both KMB or Kabengele road will only need to move to KMB.

He said only Shalom, Royal , FM travellers, Kadema and Mazhandu bus service operators will be prioritised have no shelter or slot at KMB and will need the attention of the council to look for a shelter or slots to put up their booths.

He said other bus service operators like Mbwe Motorways, LG Travellers, Juldan Motorways, Likili Motorways, Scorpion , Power Tools, Peace Soldiers, Lashimu Bus Services, P Mwansa , Hard Work Investment and CV Transport have existing slot or shelters at both Kabengele road and at KMB hence require no new slot.

And Kitwe Mayor Mpasa Mwaya has said the council will soon implement its full council resolution of removing the temporal bus station on Kabengele road following numerous complaints from various stakeholders that it has been a nuisance to the pupils at Sacred Heart Secondary School and the business community.

During a stakeholders meeting at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish church hall yesterday to give a feedback on the council’s position regarding removing the temporal bus station, Ms Mpasa said the council was firmly on course to remove the temporal bus station.
