Manage your waste, business owners urged

By ROGERS KALERO
BARS and other business houses must ensure that they manage their commercial waste so that they do not contribute to the huge heaps of garbage in the mushrooming undesignated dumpsites in various parts of Kamfinsa constituency, Kamfinsa Member of Parliament (MP) Christopher Kang’ombe has said.

And Mr Kang’ombe has said in collaboration with the residents in various parts of the constituency, he had devised a plan of garbage collection where a truck will be passing through on a particular day in each township to collect garbage.

Mr Kang’ombe said bars and other business houses should ensure that they manage their commercial waste because it was being generated from their business operations and so they should have a budget for it.
Mr Kang’ombe was speaking yesterday when he toured various undesignated dumpsites in Miseshi, Ndeke Village and other parts of the constituency where indiscriminate disposal of waste had led to the mushrooming of undesignated dumpsites .

Mr Kang’ombe said he had been forced to tour the constituency to check on the problem and challenges of garbage collection and how they could be addressed .
For bars and other business houses, they should find means of managing their commercial waste because it was coming from their operations.

“There is what is called commercial waste and what is called domestic or residential waste. So for those who generate commercial waste, they should be able to manage their waste because it is coming from their operations.
“So since it is coming from their operations they should have money for managing their commercial waste” Mr Kang’ombe said.

And Mr Kang’ombe has said the issue of garbage needed collaborative effort and change of mindset in terms of garbage disposal .
Mr Kangombe, in setting the tone to deal with the mushrooming undesigated dumpsites organised four trucks and a front end loader to collect garbage starting from one big undesignated dumpsite in the special quarters opposite wusakile township.
He said the long term solution was to find a truck which will be collecting garbage from one residential area on a particular day.
“So in trying to sort out the problem of garbage collection, we had a number of proposals which includes a truck collecting garbage from one residential area on a particular day. So if for example, in Ndeke, the truck will be collecting garbage on Tuesday and in Miseshi, the truck will be collecting garbage on Thursday” he said.
