Nakacinda’s defamation case fails to take off

By LUCY PHIRI

TRIAL in a case in which Patriotic Front (PF) Member of the Central Committee Raphael Nakacinda, is charged with defamation of President Hakainde Hichilema, could not continue as the presiding magistrate was unwell.

When the matter came up for continued trial yesterday in the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court, Nakacinda was informed that the magistrate Ms Jennifer Bwalya was unwell and therefore adjourned trial to February 18, 2022.

Nakacinda, aged 43 of farm number 1794, Kafue is accused of defaming Mr Hichilema contrary to section 69 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Allegations are that, Nakacinda on December 13, 2021, during an interview with journalists at the High Court grounds said President Hichilema had been summoning judges to his house to persuade them to bring a one-party state.
